CTB Trattamenti Termici: Dynamic demand management for energy-intensive hardening processes

How the Italian hardening center reduces its net load with the EOS system from dibalog and at the same time ensures the highest quality standards.

Initial situation: Energy-intensive production with simultaneous quality requirements

CTB Trattamenti Termici S.r.l. is a leading provider of thermal and thermochemical treatments based in Nonantola, Italy. The company is characterized by particularly high requirements for dimensional accuracy, metallographic structure control and surface hardness. With an annual capacity utilization of around 8000 operating hours and over 6500 orders per month, the energy supply is a key factor. Ensuring consistent product quality while minimizing energy consumption was the key objective when CTB opted for an intelligent demand management solution to reduce the grid load

System integration: flexible and adaptive control with dibalog EOS

In 2019, CTB put the first EOS system from dibalog into operation. The decision was made due to the flexible system architecture and the self-learning algorithms, which enable dynamic coordination of all energy-intensive processes. The aim was to avoid power peaks and minimize fluctuations in the power grid. The system accesses production data in real time and adapts the energy supply to the current load. The effect was evident within a very short time: the grid load was reduced by up to 40%

Effect: energy savings while maintaining process stability

The introduction of the EOS system not only led to significant cost savings thanks to lower grid charges, but also to a sustainable improvement in process control. Thanks to the clearly structured visualization and evaluation of the energy data, relevant process key figures could be optimized. At the same time, the energy supply was coordinated in such a way that all production systems are operated stably and efficiently - even under simultaneous load. The high reproducibility of the processes, which is essential for CTB, was fully maintained. The flexibility of the system also allows for easy scaling and expansion with every new production facility - an important advantage for a growing company.

Outlook: Technology partnership for sustainable growth
